Why Choose HeadacheMD? - Houston's Premier Headache Treatment Center

headacheMD is a network of medical practices that employs innovative, highly effective methods for the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck pain. We are particularly experienced in pain due to compression of nerves on the surface of the skull. Compression of these nerves can cause chronic migraine, chronic tension type headaches, chronic neck pain, and cervicogenic headache. Targeted medical treatments often provide substantial relief, and for those patients who do not experience reduction, nerve decompression surgery may be necessary and highly effective.

Dr. Blake, in collaboration with Rami Burstein at Harvard University, along with other scientific and clinical colleagues, proved that compression of occipital nerves leads to inflammation which can be experienced as pain on the head or neck.

The headacheMD network of collaborating medical professionals applies this science consistently, developing methods of treatment that target inflammation, other causes of head pain, involvement of the neck muscles, and any emotional factors that may contribute to pain. They work closely with specialist surgeons and psychologists to determine the optimal way forward for patients.

The goal of the network is to reach more refractory headache patients globally, with consistent methods for diagnosis and treatment. Currently the training for headacheMD professionals is provided by Dr. Blake.

About Background

Complex and Fragile The creation story

This original painting byIsabelle Dupuy portrays structures of the head that are anatomically connected and relevant to headache. The brain and the meninges (the white layer surrounding the brain) respond to emotional and other stimuli that can create pain. The green occipital nerves (which are on the outside of the skull) can also become inflamed and irritated, leading to pain. Learn about emotional factors in headache treatment.
